Biloxi Shuckers vs. Pensacola Blue Wahoos

The last time and actually the first time, Mississippi State alum Ethan Small pitched at MGM Park, he made history as a part of the first-ever combined nine-inning no-hitter thrown by the Biloxi Shuckers.

Last night, the former Bulldog took the mound for the first time since.

Shuckers played host to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in game two.

Biloxi drops this one 5-4, but let’s not let that overshadow another solid outing from Small just two weeks removed from that combined no-hitter. Shuckers Manager Mike Guerrero said, “The great thing about that night is that even you mentioned earlier about five walks is that he’s still competing and making good pitches and to have a good outcome. He had a good – his ability to make pitches when he needed to, and the guys behind him make all the plays and so that actually was a big part of it.”

Long Beach resident and Biloxi Shuckers and Mississippi State fan Bernard Gates said, “When you watch him when State plays and you see a top-notch pitcher like that, it makes you want to come out and watch him live. His wind-up is so unique that he’s just awesome to watch. He’s just not going to be here long. He will be to Double-A and then to the big bunch before long.”

The Biloxi Shuckers and Blue Wahoos play again Thursday at 6:35 p.m.
