Biloxi Shuckers vs. Chattanooga Lookouts
The Biloxi Shuckers haven’t been a good road team during the first month of the season, having lost seven out of their first nine games away from MGM Park. They started to turn that trend around earlier today and they made sure everyone knew it.
Shuckers losers of their last five road games and their last five games overall, but not anymore after taking on the Chattanooga Lookouts.
Shuckers win 14-5. Following an off day, they’ll get back to the diamond Wednesday for another five game road set against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. The Shuckers are in second place in the Southern League South standings behind the Blue Wahoos.
Shuckers third baseman Weston Wilson has been named Southern League Player of the Week. For the week, the former 17th round pick led the league in slugging percentage and finished second in home runs, RBI, extra base hits, and OPS. He’s the first Shucker to win the award since Corey Ray last July.
The longest-tenured player for the Biloxi Shuckers is no longer the longest-tenured player for the Biloxi Shuckers. Today, Blake Allemand finally got the call up to Triple-A San Antonio after spending more than two full seasons at Double-A Biloxi.
Hitting just .234, the utility infielder has actually gotten off to a slow start this season and has already been left out of the starting line up seven times.
Allemand will be the only switch-hitting position player on the Missions roster and leaves Biloxi with the third-most doubles in team history, having led the Shuckers in that department in 2017.
In a corresponding move, Tyler Spurlin rejoins the Shuckers for the first time since 2016.
