Biloxi Shuckers Introduce new Manager
A winning mindset: that’s what the Shuckers new manager Mike Guerrero is taking into the 2016 season for Biloxi’s baseball team. News 25’s Gina Tomlinson was among the crowd today welcoming the team’s new manager at a special press conference.
It may be a whole new field for Mike Guerrero but not a new ballgame. Guerrero spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers as a first base and infield coach in 2013. He has also been an entry level manager for more than 18 seasons in the minor leagues.
This team is his new family in more ways than one. He’ll be joining his brother Sandy Guerrero who is the Shuckers’ batting coach. This is something they believe will only strengthen the team’s lineup and chemistry in the dugout. “The relationship between us is unbelievable. He knows when I get mad, I know when he gets mad,” said Mike Guerrero.
There was a lot of fanfare at today’s press conference but Mike Guerrero knows he has big shoes to fill after former manager Carlos Subero guided Biloxi’s inaugural baseball team to the national championship series last year. Voice of the Shuckers Chris Harris tells News 25 they owe thanks to the fans for their homerun of a season. “The fans here are unbelievable. That was one of the big rallying cries last year was when the guys got here, eventually, finally, the fans really rallied behind them.”
The new manager tells News 25 he believes the stronger the fan base, the better the players will play. In order to fill the seats this year, the Biloxi Shuckers will be doing a lot of community involvement. “It goes a long way when you pat a kid on the back, they look up to you. It takes only 20 seconds to sign an autograph and give a high five,” said Guerrero.
They say you can count on seeing them working hard off the field, ramping up community endeavors. “You’ll be seeing a lot of the Shuckers around the Gulf Coast this year,” said Harris.
Because when the Biloxi Shuckers win, the community hits a homerun too.
