Biloxi Shuckers head into 2023 with new ownership

John Tracy has been to more Minor League ball parks than most as the father of Ole Miss alum Matt Tracy, who spent the better part of a decade chasing the dream in the Yankees, Marlins, Twins, and Blue Jays farm systems.

He’s now combining his two passions as the new owner of the Biloxi Shuckers, business and baseball.

Earlier this week, the Shuckers announced a change in ownership with Tracy buying the double-a affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers from Ken Young, who had been the owner since their inaugural season in 2015.

Tracy is the CEO of his family business ‘Dot Foods,’ among other distribution companies that he’s acquired and grown over the years.

He says he’ll be taking a similar approach in his new role with the Shuckers, who finished last in the Southern League in attendance in 2022, averaging more than 2,300 fans per game, according to Ballpark Digest. Tracy said, “I think it starts with a good location. I think the community is excellent. I think it’s a growth community. I think you’ve got tourism down here. I think you’ve got a really nice stadium that’s still relatively new. I think we’ve got a good management team, and when you compare what we’re doing here versus some other parks that are similar around the country, it would suggest there’s a pretty good growth opportunity, so what we need to do is to focus on creating an even better customer experience for everybody that walks in, and baseball, try to find out how many other quality entertainment options we could bring to the park.”
