Biloxi School District Kicks Off Mission Graduation
Officials from every Biloxi public school were at the Ohr O’Keefe Museum Monday evening to discuss plans to help kids stay in school and graduate. Many of the plans keep the community involved by offering mentoring services and communicating with kids to keep them engaged in the learning process. Many ideas were discussed. News 25 spoke with the Assistant Superintendent of the Biloxi School District, Karen Norwood, about some of the plans.
Norwood says, "We have one program called Monday Mentors. That is designed for elementary kids. You can come in and ready, just come in and be assigned to be that extra person in that child’s life to be there and talk with them, that is there to talk with them and encourage them, ask them, ‘How are you doing in school, how’d you do in the ball game, how did you do on the science project?’”
The Biloxi School District already has one of the highest graduation rates on the Gulf Coast, but is looking to improve it nonetheless.
