Biloxi Residents Express Concerns to City Council

The talk of the town the last few days has been baseball, but there are other issues weighing heavily on Biloxi residents as well. After the stadium construction update, the City Council moved to more serious topics.

Residents voiced their opposition about short term rentals, meaning residential homes that are being rented out to vacationers or used as bed and breakfasts. Residents are concerned about safety issues and the financial losses of the hotel/motel industry. Also, the most recent city budget cut $80,000 from the Coast Transit Authority’s (C.T.A.) budget, leaving many residents who rely on public transportation out in the cold.

Ben Levitt, President of the Resident Council at Point Cadet Senior Village, says, "It’s not just $80,000, the feds were going to match that amount, so it’s $160,000 actually that has been cut out that is affecting the bus route that we live on, which took us to all the important places along Division and Howard."

Due to the budget cuts, the red and blue routes on the C.T.A. bus map will be removed, while the bold green casino hopper route doubled in size.
