Biloxi Police providing reassurance calls for residents
For Biloxi residents who are alone or may feel vulnerable, you can sign up to receive a daily ‘are you okay’ call from the police department, just to check in.
Through the ‘R U OK’ system, elderly, medically disabled, or homebound residents can receive reassurance calls daily at a designated time.
A dispatcher, community relations representative, or automated system contacts participants. If there is no response or a wrong response is given, an officer on patrol is sent to check in on the participant’s well-being.
While the ‘R U OK’ system has been around for more than a decade, it continues to help those in the community. Reuben Sabio with Biloxi Police Department Community Relations said, “As the elderly progress, they’re outliving a lot of people and most of them are alone. They have no other family members close by, no one in the local area. So, it’s just a way for us to stay in touch with them and give them assurance that they’re going to be well cared for.”
To sign up for the program call the Biloxi Police Department Community Relations Division at 228-385-3033.
