An investigation is underway after a crash caused damage in the Biloxi National Cemetery on Sunday.

According to cemetery director Alfred Maxwell, a pickup truck drove through sections of the cemetery around 3 PM, damaging some headstones, a bench, a flag pole, and some road signs.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Maxwell said a veteran was behind the wheel of the truck and drove through several sections of the cemetery before stopping.

About 12 headstones were damaged in the process.

An initial report suggested a medical incident was the cause, but an investigation is ongoing to determine what happened.

Workers arrived at the cemetery on Monday to fix headstones and put them back.

Maxwell said most of the damage was able to be fixed, aside from one headstone that needed to be replaced.

He said it was lucky there was not more damage, the truck had driven over a section of flat headstones.
