Biloxi Police Department temporarily under new leadership

BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV)- Assistant Police Chief Grandver Everett has been temporarily appointed as the acting interim director of the Biloxi Police Department.

The city is working to determine who will eventually fill the position permanently.

Everett was named to the role Tuesday afternoon, taking over the job following Christoper De Back, who was confirmed as chief in January.

Everett’s appointment was made during a budget meeting at Biloxi City Hall.

The proposed budget includes a $10,000 decrease for the police department, with city leaders reviewing how to prioritize funding for the upcoming fiscal year. That could include looking at areas such as education opportunities for officers, as the department works with the proposed reduction. Everett said, “You know when you think back to when Director Miller was in place, strong leadership, wanting to move not just the department forward, but the city as well, building up the young men and women who are currently serving with us. Then under Chief De Back, he kept the same philosophy in wanting to move forward and building up the men and women in this agency and that’s the vision I want to see moving forward. As far as the citizens go, we’re going to do what we always do and we’re going to serve the citizens. Regardless of what are budget is, there is no circumstances should we ever short them of the services we have to offer. So, we’ll be creative in our approach, but we’re going to provide the level of services that they’ve come to expect.”

Everett’s appointment to the role has a maximum duration of 90 days.
