Ever wonder what it is like to be a police officer or maybe how officers work with the community? Well, sign up for the 4th Annual Citizen’s Police Academy and find out!
The Biloxi Police Department is now accepting applications for participants for its fourth Citizen’s Police Academy taking place Aug. 13, 2024 to Jan. 14, 2025, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
The program, conducted at the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center on Porter Avenue, is designed to give citizens insight into the different divisions of the Biloxi Police Department and how the department serves the community.
“The program is a way for the department to educate and develop positive relations with our citizens,” said Biloxi Police Captain Jay Morgan. “We are continuing to build community cooperation, understanding, and goodwill.”
The Fourth Annual Citizen’s Police Academy will be held once a week, for two hours on Tuesdays. The program does have some extra days scheduled for make-up days. The program is limited to 25 participants and will include classroom-based teaching, a ride-along, a department tour, K-9 demonstrations, and some hands-on demonstrations.
Participants must be at least 21 years old, a resident of Harrison County, and must complete an application, which is available at the front desk of the Public Safety Center, 170 Porter Ave.
Application deadline is Aug. 6.
