Biloxi mayor talks plans to reopen the city

The City of Biloxi is one step closer to business as usual.

As the statewide coronavirus number continues to rise, Harrison County has comparatively seen a steady decline in cases since April 14th, leading to more talk of reopening Biloxi.

Currently Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich and the Biloxi City Council are evaluating each sector, restaurants, hair salons, casinos, and church organizations, to find out how those employees can return to ‘some form of business’ at this time.

Mayor Gilich says we’re not there yet, but he’s hopeful we’ll get there safely and logically by peak tourism season on the Coast. “It’s critical that we open for the citizens too, but for our tourism industry, our gaming industry. The gaming industry benefits the whole county and especially the state. We’ve got eight casinos in Biloxi. We’ve got 6,000 hotel rooms in Biloxi. We’re gonna be the first responders, so we need some consideration and understanding with the whole type of intersective industry. Our opportunity is now to do it the right way.”
