Biloxi Mayor Returns from Washington, D.C.
Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘Fofo’ Gilich is back on the Coast after a trip to Washington DC.
Gilich and his wife were invited to our nation’s capital by First Lady Michelle Obama as part of the Capstone for Veterans Homelessness Ceremony, which honors mayors across the country for the efforts in reducing homelessness among veterans in their communities. Gilich spent over six hours inside the White House, meeting with leaders from across the United States.
Mayor Gilich said, “It was just a great visit. I met some of these folks through doing the US Conference for Mayors, but this was just a continuing experience and a way to address problems not only with homelessness and the veterans, but the things that we’re gonna be facing, you know the challenges we will be facing. So you know the networking and the ability to meet face to face with these folks was tremendous.”
In the past year, Biloxi and Gulfport have combined their efforts to find homes for 250 veterans.
