Biloxi Lighthouse Illuminated in Christmas Best
Biloxi turned on the holiday cheer as they lit up the famous lighthouse tonight.
Hundreds of residents filled the median surrounding the U.S. 90 landmark to see Mayor FoFo Gilich flip the switch. The 1960 themed red and silver garland decorations were illuminated, draping down the 64 foot tall lighthouse. Hot chocolate and cookies were also served. The new “Christmas in Biloxi” long-sleeved t-shirts were also on sale.
Bill Raymond, historical administrator, says the city began doing this ceremony when they changed the lighthouse Christmas decorations three years ago. “We actually started doing it in 2013 as a 50 year commemoration of a photograph that we had from 1963 that photographer and painter Joe Moran took. It was a great picture of the lighthouse, there was snow everywhere so we did it and it was such a big hit that we’ve continued to do it every year.”
Santa Claus even made an appearance at the top of the lighthouse. He stuck around afterwards for pictures with the children.
