Biloxi Lighthouse going gold for Childhood Cancer Awareness
The City of Biloxi is changing the color of its historic lighthouse to gold in solidarity with Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, in partnership with the City of Biloxi, is going gold in the fight to end childhood cancer.
Visitors showed their support by displaying gold ribbons. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation was designed to create funding and assist research for children with cancer.
In the U.S. alone, 47 children are diagnosed with cancer each day with more than 17,000 children diagnosed with the disease each year.
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in American children.
St. Baldrick’s Foundation organizer Rebecca Morrow had this to say about the awareness month and what it means to her. “This will teach generations now and future generations just how vital the kids are and how much we need them to grow old and be a part of society. As long as there is childhood cancer around and there aren’t grid treatments, we won’t have that. Ask that all the small businesses, big businesses, everybody put gold ribbons on your doors and show your support for kids with cancer.”
The St. Baldrick Foundation will continue raising awareness by hanging gold ribbons at Gulfport City Hall.
