Biloxi invades D’Iberville
It’s a celebration of partying with Pierre as part of Mississippi’s bicentennial.
The City of D’Iberville hosted their re-enactment of the 1699 landing featuring actors portraying D’Iberville and explorers and a ceremonial reunion of representatives of the Canadians and the Biloxi Chitimacha Tribe.
Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich and a party of pirates traveled aboard a Jolly Roger-flagged Biloxi schooner to invade the City of D’iberville for the bicentennial. D’Iberville City Planner Jeff Taylor said, “We’re preceding the Coast wide event that’s next Saturday. It all started right here for Mississippi, right here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We’re celebrating that by bringing our Native American friends that were here before us, the first inhabitants of the Coast and also our Canadian friends from Canada, Louis Blais, counsel general out of Atlanta. We got everybody involved.”
The Bicentennial Celebration South will be the weekend of March 31st to April 1st in Gulfport.
