Biloxi Honors Hibernia Marching Society for St. Patrick’s Day
The Hibernia Marching Society has put on the Biloxi St. Patrick’s Day parade each year since 1986. They also participate in events along the Coast to raise awareness of the Irish influence on the Coast’s culture. Mark Cumbest is Grand Marshal for this year’s parade and Breann Shaughnessy is his right hand woman. Together, they are looking forward to the Irish celebrations throughout the month.
Cumbest says, “A lot of significant contributions that the Irish people have made and I think it’s an educational thing, to get the word out to the younger generations. Everybody celebrates their heritage and their culture and we’ve got a lot to celebrate here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.”
The parade is March 14th in Biloxi at 2 p.m. There is also a 5k scheduled before the parade at 8 a.m.
