Biloxi High School senior earns national honors

Biloxi High School announced senior Madeline Pitre is one of nine Mississippi students selected as a semifinalist for the 2022 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

Pitre was also chosen as a second runner up for the Stars Program, which recognizes the highest ACT scores in the state of Mississippi. For that she received a $16,000 scholarship.

Pitre will attend Yale University in the fall.

The 2022 Presidential Scholars are chosen on the basis of a student’s accomplishments in many areas, academic and artistic success, accomplishment in career and technical fields, leadership and involvement in school and the community.

Pitre said, “I’m very excited about both of those accomplishments. They mean a lot to me. I’ve worked very hard as a student throughout these past 4 years. So, it’s very nice to be recognized for that.”

Pitre says all of her teachers and mentors at Biloxi High School have helped shape her into the person she is today. “I’ve had such a great experience at Biloxi High School- not only with the academic prep but I’ve taken a lot of amazing classes and all my teachers have been supportive and helped me grow as a student, but I think the main thing I love about Biloxi High is the people.”

For students at the beginning of their high school career, Pitre says to stay focused and keep up a great work ethic.
