Biloxi High School coach and teacher Joey St. Amant dies from ALS

Today, the Biloxi community is mourning the loss of their beloved football coach Joey St. Amant, also known as Elmo, who recently lost his fight to ALS disease.

St. Amant wore many different hats at Biloxi High School, but was best known as an assistant football coach.

This past football season, the Indian community demonstrated their love and support for the St. Amant family with a pre-game ceremony.

Both the Biloxi and Pearl football teams raised $44,000 for a handicap accessible van.

Close friends are choosing to remember him as a joyful spirit and lover of all things Biloxi. Childhood friend and Biloxi teacher and Coach Danny Wasilenko said, “If I could say one thing about Coach St. Amant it’s that he really cared about the kids and if they needed the shirt off his back, he’d give it to him and he just really cared about the kids. That was his first priority… very competitive, but cared about the kids the most.”

Biloxi Head Football Coach Katlan French said, “He was a very positive influence on me and a very, very positive influence on the success that Biloxi football has had throughout the time he’s had when it comes to our kids being good in life, and he played a major role in that.”
