Biloxi, Gulfport sign international sister agreement with Rionegro, Colombia
HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- It’s a new chapter in Biloxi and Gulfport as the cities have signed a new sister city agreement, but the third city involved isn’t from the Coast, in fact it’s not even in the United States.
Mayor Jorge Rivas made his way from Rionegro, Colombia to be a part of the new sister city signing. He was joined alongside Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich and Gulfport Mayor Hugh Keating as they put pen to paper to celebrate the agreement.
It’s the continuation of a relationship which began between the cities in 2019, but was slowed by COVID.
As a new agreement is put into place, each party is confident they’ll see a boost when it comes to their tourism, economic, and commercial industries.
Rionegro also serves as an important historical city and tourist attraction in Colombia as it was where the Colombian Constitution was signed in 1863.
