Biloxi football shut down for two weeks

Less than a week ago, News 25’s 25 Teams in 25 Days took you to Biloxi High School ahead of its heavily-anticipated 2020 football season.

Only now that season is gonna have to wait at least an extra week.

As first reported by Brandon Shields of Mississippi Gridiron, Biloxi football will be shut down for the next two weeks as a result of the school going to a full distanced learning until September 8th. This includes the cancellation of the annual Shrimp Bowl which would have been Biloxi’s season opener against reigning 4A South State champion Poplarville on September 4th.

Biloxi’s September 11th game against Vicksburg is also in jeopardy, leaving third year Head Coach Katlan French cautiously optimistic about what he hopes is a better late than never scenario. “You hate to see a game taken away from the kids because they’ve already had one taken away from them already, and now we’re taking another game away from them. So I more hate it for them, especially the seniors when it comes to the high school experience. But we’re going to play football this year one way or another. Nobody is going to stop us from doing that. We are going to play football this year, and that’s going to happen. And we may miss a game – we may miss two, at the most – but we’re going to play some ball this year. And I just try to let them know that and so they can have comfort in knowing that.”

Biloxi High School has 15 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as well as 324 students in quarantine due to potential exposure.
