Biloxi Fire Department holds memorial service in honor of fallen firefighters
When a first responder loses their life in the line of duty, it’s like losing a family member to the rest of their team.
With this in mind, the Biloxi Fire Department held a memorial service for Kurt Jacquet Sr. and Carl Ohr. They both lost their lives while fighting a house fire on October 20th, 1986.
Chief Joe Boney says this remembrance gives them an opportunity to pay their respects while celebrating the service these men gave to their department and the city.
This is the 33rd year the Biloxi Fire Department has gone to Jacquet’s graveside to pay their respects. Gloria Kostmayer, Jacquet’s sister, said, “It is sad because of why we’re here, but it is a good reminder to let the people of the city known and the firemen know and us that it wasn’t just because. There was actually something learned from it and taken from it.”
Flowers were also laid on Anthony Rousseau’s grave. Rousseau died while responding to a fire in 1951.
