Biloxi faces backlash over state flag

After the City of Biloxi removed state flags from all city buildings, a large group of protestors gathered at today’s city council meeting.
During the public comment portion of the meeting there were people in attendance voicing both criticism and support for the city’s decision. Many brought their own state flags into the council chambers.
Matt Reardon, a former Marine from Oxford, Mississippi, attended the meeting, demonstrating his right to bear arms. Reardon tells News 25 he is here based on his beliefs that the city is infringing on the rights he fought to defend. “I took an oath to help protect our constitution and protect our country from all enemies both foreign and domestic and signing up to fight for the Marine Corps out of Mississippi, obviously the state flag is very important to me, just like the American flag. Just like any state flag is around the country and I’m just here saying do the right thing and put it to a vote. If the majority votes in favor of changing the flag then change the flag, but until then there’s a process.”
Mississippi is the last state with a flag that still includes the Confederate battle emblem.
