Biloxi Denies Request for Personal Care Home

Monday, residents of a north Biloxi neighborhood were pleased to hear that a personal care home would not be coming to their neighborhood.

A homeowner on Sweet Carolyn Road in Biloxi wished to convert her residence into a personal care home. Neighbors presented an appeal at the Harrison County Board of Supervisors meeting Monday morning voicing their concerns. Some say they did not want to see their neighborhood commercialized, while others felt a personal care home would increase traffic through a normally quiet neighborhood.

Ms. West, a neighbor against the home, says, “This would change our neighborhood. They say it would not be disruptive and intrusive, but it would because it does open the door for the future, what would happen and there’s a lot more involved in a personal care home and operating one than just opening up a home and bringing in a few residents.”

The board did not grant the zoning change, which would allow the homeowner to turn her residence into a personal care home. The board felt granting one exception would open the door for similar proposals.
