Biloxi Councilman Robert Deming pleads guilty to one charge in drug case
There are new developments in the federal case involving Biloxi City Councilman Robert Deming.
Deming pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court Wednesday on one of the counts against him.
That charge is conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. The maximum penalty is no more than 20 years in prison, up to a $1 million fine, three years probation, and a special $100 assessment.
The indictment against Deming announced last September charged him with two counts of intent to distribute, as well as another charge of destruction or alteration of records in a federal investigation, stemming from synthetic cannabinoid products sold at his CBD stores located in Mississippi and in North Carolina.
Our media partner the Sun Herald reports prosecutors dismissed the other charges in exchange for the guilty plea.
Sentencing is now set for August 13th.
State law stipulates Deming will have to resign his position on the Biloxi City Council as a result of this guilty plea.
