Biloxi considering legal options regarding CSX
Another topic of discussion at today’s City Council meeting in Biloxi is the ongoing issue with hazardous railways.
City officials tell News 25 that over the years they believe CSX has built up their railways to create the current problem being faced at crossings throughout east Biloxi. Today the city discussed hiring a litigation team before approaching CSX about fixing the problems with their railways.
The legal team specializes with dealing with railroad companies and has an extensive track record of success. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “What we want to do is see the issue resolved to make it to where the crossings are safer. We believe that is the responsibility of CSX. Accordingly the City of Biloxi is hiring special litigation, a firm that 90 percent of their work deals with train accidents, crossings, and safety. So this firm that we’re looking at, they specialize in this.”
The City of Biloxi has set a cap for costs to cover the litigation at $50,000.
