Biloxi City Council works on special event ordinance

The Biloxi City Council is back to working through the special event ordinances to amend items that are outdated.

The council tackled the special event committee, opting to add someone from Coastal Mississippi and the Biloxi Bay Board to it.

They also discussed how sound codes would be enforceable and how to avoid more pop-up events.

A large part of the revision is creating a tier system for all events. Bigger events will be tier one with smaller events in tier five.

The bigger the event, the more they will need to pay to cover costs the city may incur. Cruisin’ the Coast Woody Bailey said, “If this ordinance does pass, we hope that you, the city council and the administration, will keep an open mind to potential changes that may need to happen as we get into the operation of this ordinance.”

Hibernia Irish Society President Celeste O’Keefe said, “My concern is if we have to pay some kind of funds to do our parade, our Irish Malarkey Arts and cultural event that we’re having, we won’t be able to do it. My biggest fear is… they’re going to go somewhere else.”

Items approved unanimously will get into effect immediately. The City of Biloxi will be putting out a full list of items approved.
