Biloxi City Council to Appoint Acting Mayor Tuesday

Biloxi City Hall is on edge as they await the City Council’s decision on accepting Mayor A.J. Holloway’s resignation and appointing a council member to serve as Acting Mayor until the special election.

Holloway appointed Felix Gines to fill in as Acting Mayor while he was in an alcohol rehabilitation center. However, Holloway has decided his health is declining and he can no longer serve as Mayor. Whichever council member is appointed Tuesday will be jumping right into mayoral duties.

Vincent Creel, Public Affairs Manager for Biloxi, says, “Whoever it’s going to be is named Mayor on Tuesday, on Wednesday they’re going to be presenting a proclamation to the Citizen of the Year, an annual thing on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, they have to turn around and they are going to deliver the welcoming remarks for the State of the City, which is a major address that we have every year.”

Biloxi City Council has called a special meeting for 10 a.m. Tuesday morning where they will vote on whether to accept Mayor Holloway’s resignation. They will then vote on which council member is to become the new Acting Mayor.
