Biloxi City Council Discusses Zoning & Expansion

Trees have been the talk of Biloxi over the last several weeks, but Tuesday’s meeting had a different tone, one all about zoning and city expansion.

Many of the proposals brought before the council Tuesday had to do with re-zoning many residential properties, which have yet to be rebuilt since Hurricane Katrina, into commercial or multi-family residential. One of the most important items on Tuesday’s agenda was the purchase of Superior Utilities for $587,000. The company provides water services to over 200 customers in the Woolmarket area, and Biloxi hopes to continue providing the area with quality water service.

Vincent Creel, Public Affairs Manager for Biloxi, says, “We are not looking to go out there and raise anybody’s water rates. What we’re looking to do is provide them with dependable, reliable, and affordable water service.”

The purchase of Superior Utilities was approved, as well as re-zoning for at least one property to build a La Quinta Inn.
