Biloxi approves Aqua Suites development

The Biloxi City Council has approved plans for the Biloxi Aqua Suites hotel near a residential area.

The hotel will be located at 1252 Beach Boulevard and will feature 48 upscale rooms geared to couples. It also will have a rooftop pool and other water features, as well as a landscaped courtyard.

The hotel is Phase I of the project with Phase 2 planned for multi-family apartments. The design for Phase 2 has not yet been completed but is in progress.

Under the approved planned development hospitality overlay, the developer has two years to present plans for housing or other use on the remaining property.

“This is something that was needed,” said Jerry Creel, director of community development. “This property has been vacant for a long time, and it’s the perfect place for a hotel to go. It’s right there near the White House Hotel who is also proposing an addition on this west side of White Avenue, and so we feel like this is a good place for development. It’s close to downtown, it’s close to the baseball stadium and it’s close to the casinos.”

Biloxi approved the plan for the Aqua Suites, but not a proposed Residence Inn after neighbors nearby on Father Ryan Avenue objected to the plan.
