Billy Knight wins Moss Point mayoral race

In Moss Point, Democratic candidate Billy Knight won the mayoral municipal general election with over 80 percent of votes.

Winning by a landslide, Knight defeated Republican candidate Richard McBride and Independent Candidate Howard Bailey. The 2021 municipal election was Billy Knight’s third time running for mayor.

He told himself he wouldn’t run for mayor again after losing in the Democratic runoff election in 2017 against Mario King, but then he was reminded by one of his students to ‘never give up.’ “Well, I’m excited about it because it gives me the opportunity I always wanted to lead this great city. There are a lot of great opportunities here, a lot of possibilities, great people. I’m happy that they gave me this great opportunity to be their mayor and give something back to the city that I always wanted to do. So, I’m very proud of that.”

At Knight’s watch party at the Audubon Center, his family, friends, and campaign supporters congratulated him on his mayoral victory.
