Billfish Classic
The scales are open and anglers are bringing in some huge catches in hopes of a shot at winning this year’s Billfish Classic.
So far, the biggest fish to be weighed is a 633 pound blue marlin landed by Clint Herring. Herring happened to be fishing from Cotton Patch, the boat that landed the winning fish during last year’s tournament.
With 81 boats registered, this year’s tournament is 14 boats larger than last years. Tournament Director Bobby Carter said, “It’s hard to believe fishing for blue marlin out of Biloxi, Mississippi, but it’s a reality. Matter of fact, we’ve built this tournament, it’s one of the top five in the world as far as purses, giving away money. This year we have 81 boats. Of the 81 boats, only three local boats are participating.”
This year’s Billfish Classic features a prize pool of over one million dollars.
