Bill proposed allowing reduction of parole time

The Mississippi Legislation has proposed a bill that allows reduction of parole time for a felon.

The reduction in time would happen if the parolee enrolled in a faith-based activity or faith-based sponsored activities.

House Bills 4 and 5 were proposed by Representative Omeria Scott of District 80.

Any offender who is on probation and parole – including the intensive supervision program – may have their placement on probation reduced by 30 days for each 30 days of participation on one of these activities.

An offender would need to have a designated leader of the faith-based entity provide a monthly report by the 15th day of each month following the offender’s participation.

The report would need to be sent to the commissioner of the Department of Corrections.

At least every six months, an offender would be notified of the current sentence discharge date.

If passed, the bills go into effect July 1st.
