Bike Safety Rodeo took place in Biloxi this weekend
May is National Bike Safety Month and Biloxi Main Street and Mercy Housing and Human Development teamed up to make sure everyone’s bikes are ready for the summer.
The City of Biloxi, along with Gulf Coast Safe Kids, hosted a Bike Safety Rodeo on Saturday at the Biloxi Visitor Center Lighthouse Park.
Riders were able to get maintenance done to their bikes, get their tires inflated, and receive bike safety demonstrations.
After receiving the proper maintenance, bikers took a ride through the streets of Biloxi. Xuan Tran with Mercy Housing and Human Development said, “As they are biking, they are going to be in downtown Biloxi and supporting different businesses once they leave this bike rodeo.”
Julie Egressy with Mercy Housing and Human Development said, “Yeah, we wanted to make it a joint effort between Main Street Biloxi and also Gulf Coast Safe Kids so that people know that we have biking tourism. Biking is a big event in downtown Biloxi every day. They have bike tours going through along Biloxi and the Back Bay every day. So, we just wanted to be a big part of that and to promote that.”
Bikers enjoyed free snow cones, refreshments, and a helmet giveaway.
