Bike and Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month

It’s the time of year when so many people here on the Coast and across the nation are hopping on their bicycles or motorcycles.

The month of May is also Bike and Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month. This month, the Mississippi Department of Transportation reminding drivers to share the road with cyclists and motorcyclists.

MDOT officials say cyclists also have a part in staying safe while on the road. “Be sure to check your equipment for proper fit, maintenance, and tire pressure. Plan to be seen, that means wearing bright colored clothing, use lights at night, wear a helmet! Cyclists are also required to follow all traffic laws, that means driving in the same direction as traffic, using hand signals for turns, and obeying traffic signs and signals.”
