Big City Project Underway at Hiller Park

In an area some call Biloxi’s hidden gem, a new project is underway at Hiller Park that may bring this city treasure out of hiding.
The City of Biloxi is dressing up the western entrance of Hiller Park, adding a ten foot wide walkway that will be 1,700 feet long running right beside the bayou.
The walkway is the final phase of a sidewalk project that also includes a pedestrian bridge over a canal leading up to Hiller Park pond and a retaining wall built for the bayou.
City officials tell News 25 the new walkway is a step up for walkers and joggers, showcasing the beauty and sights of Hiller Park. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “We’re talking about a new façade, a new bulkhead that is going to front this bayou. What we’re thinking this is going to do is it’s going to make this park more accessible and more inviting to a host of people. It’s a great project. Mayor Gilich thinks we need to be a walkable community and this is one of the steps in that direction.”
The sidewalk will connect to Popp’s Ferry Road.
City officials say this is a $405,000 project, funded by the city and a tidelands grant. The Hiller Park project is set to be completed in October.
