Bids for dredging at Hiller Park now open

Bidding is now open for dredging at Hiller Park in Biloxi. Something city officials say is a step in the right direction.
City officials say boat owners who use the launch at Hiller Park have been unhappy for years about the need for dredging of the canal. The bodies of water put up for bid include Sherman Canaan Back Bay Fishing Dock, Hiller Park Canal, Mercedes-Walda Canal, North Haven-Holly Hills Canal, Point Cadet Marina, Goosepoint-Lakeview-Bay Point Canal and Sunrise Canal.
City Councilwoman Dixie Newman tells News 25 the main problem is boats getting stuck in the water, which she also experienced herself. “Actually a long time ago, I got stuck out here in a boat when the tide went out. So, we want everyone to stay safe and enjoy the water as well as everything Hiller Park has to offer.”
City officials do not know exactly when dredging will start. They will know more when the bids are opened and reviewed.
