Bethel Free Health Clinic Needs Volunteers

The Bethel Free Health Clinic in Biloxi has had over 38,000 patients visit since Hurricane Katrina. But now the clinic, who offers free health care to those without insurance, needs help and is pleading for volunteers.
The Bethel Free Health Clinic has been in desperate need of volunteer doctors for months. The small staff was hoping a new law allowing military doctors to volunteer at free clinics, without having to purchase a Mississippi license, would help fill the void. That law went into effect July 31st, but so far, the call for help remains unanswered.
Executive Director Judy Jones said, “We’re turning people away and that breaks my heart. I don’t like turning anybody away who needs help.”
Right now, Dr. David Clippinger is the clinic’s only physician, but because of his health he can only work two half days a week. The clinic wants to extend its days and hours of operation to better serve the patients who need it so much. They are asking for military doctors here on the Coast to donate any time they can. “Half a day a week or half a day a month or a day a month or something, so that we could get back on our feet,” said Jones.
The Bethel Free Health Clinic is not only in need of doctors. They could use help from providers, nurses, health educators and pharmacists. Any help would be much appreciated, so they can continue helping those who cannot access healthcare.
Dr. David Clippinger said, “People come because they can’t go anywhere else. They can’t get their prescriptions filled.”
Anyone willing to help is encouraged to contact the Bethel Free Health Clinic.
The Bethel Free Health Clinic is run on donations and grants. They are always looking for donors as well.
