Bethel Free Health Clinic in Desperate Need of Donations

Those without health insurance often go without getting the medical attention they need. That’s where the Bethel Free Health Clinic in Biloxi steps in, seeing about 1,400 uninsured patients each year.
But the clinic, which runs on donations, is in desperate need of help. It costs between $7,000 and $8,000 to run the clinic each month and donated funding isn’t flowing like it used to.
The clinic has been scrapping by the past few months and is looking for a steady stream of donations so they can help those who otherwise would be left with nowhere to go. Robert Weierman, M.D. at Bethel Free Health Clinic said, “I think there is enough studies in the country now that show that those who don’t have routine medical care, by the time they get to an emergency room, they use so many services because they’re too sick. If we can prevent that, I think that’s a big plus. I personally would like to see patients feel they can depend on us that if they need something they know there is a place that will see them.”
In addition to funding, the clinic could also use nurse practitioners and doctors who would be willing to donate just a few hours a week to see patients so the clinic could see patients five days a week.
