Bernard Blackwell Classic
For a dozen football standouts from the Gulf Coast Saturdays Bernard Blackwell Classic was the final game of their high school careers. But points were at a premium in the 69th annual all-star game and the south team didn’t score any of them. The north blanked the opposition with a 13-nothing victory which is the game’s first shutout since the year 2000. But win or lose players were happy to have a chance to be on the field one more time.
“It was great to get selected to come play in this it’s a great experience to come down here and play in this and I’m glad we could come out with a win.”
– Walt Hopson
“It’s amazing, it means everything to me because I get close to guys I have been playing against all year and throughout my career and it’s just a great time.”
– Josh Smith Tupelo
The south still leads the overall series… 33-28-and-4.
