Beauvoir celebrates 214th birthday of Jefferson Davis
Beauvoir held a celebration on Saturday for the 214th birthday of Jefferson Davis.
The event began early that morning when guests were greeted by period-dressed men and women to fit the 1800s theme.
Visitors were able to hear from special guest speakers about Davis’ history and take tours through the main house and learn about Beauvoir’s history.
One of the guest speakers, author and historian Curt Locklear, says celebrating days like this is important to preserve history and to understand the full story of our country. “We just had a great time talking and sharing and knowing that it’s important to keep history alive. It’s not so much just keeping Jefferson Davis’ history alive, which we want to do, but everyone in history. Let’s tell it like it really was and honor those people.”
The day ended with a 21-gun salute and some cannon fire for an explosive finish.
