Beating back to school anxiety

It’s that time of year again and kids may not want to hear it, but the start of the school year is just around the corner.

News 25 has some tips to make that transition back to class a little easier.

It’s natural for students to feel nervous heading back after summer break, but especially for those students leaving one school and heading to the next.

Officials at two Coast elementary schools agree it is important for students to start getting back in the swing of things, going to bed early, not sleeping in late, and setting their sights on preparing for the upcoming school year. Three Rivers Elementary Social Worker Nicole Miller said, “We can start talking to them about who their teacher is going to be. All schools have orientations, attend orientation. It is so important. You can meet your teacher and the kids who are already in their class. For the little ones, they even get to see where they sit and that’s pretty cool. So, on the first day so they know where they are going.”

Popps Ferry Elementary School Counselor Allison St. Amant said, “Parents need to be involved as much as possible and just make it more of a positive experience for them, helping them go through the process easily. Letting them have that fun time to get them ready for school.”
