Be mindful of veterans while shooting fireworks this holiday weekend

The 4th of July weekend can be stressful for veterans in South Mississippi. The loud booms and pops from fireworks can be disturbing for those who have served our country.

To help veterans deal with the noise, Crusaders for Veterans President Kevin Cuttill suggests getting in touch with veteran neighbors and warning them about potential fireworks you plan to set off.

Veterans can also find a quiet place to stay so the noises won’t trigger them.

If there aren’t any quiet places nearby, turning up the TV or wearing headphones and listening to music can help drown out the noises. Cuttill said, “A lot of veterans that fought for your freedom, those loud bangs associate with something else. So, just be considerate. Those fireworks didn’t help you with your freedom. It’s the veterans that did so be considerate of them.”

Cuttill says veterans aren’t the only ones who are suffering with PTSD.
