Bay-Waveland School District holds open house to share details on bond release

The Bay-Waveland School District hosted an open house today to let parents ask questions about the $37.8 million bond issue.

With the voting coming up in late March, the school district is using these open houses as an opportunity to inform the public on the importance of the bond.

School board members say the need for the bond falls into four categories: establishing a pre-K education program, updating the high school, which was built in 1966, as well as providing a better STEM education and education in the arts, and to make improvements in athletic facilities.

So far, the school district has seen an overwhelmingly positive response to the bond. Waveland Elementary School second grade teacher Alfredo Childs said, “We’ve seen a lot of great support from a lot of these parents especially because it deals with the education of their children. So, I know that their future is a great impact on their decision, on where to direct their choice of either going for the bond or not going for the bond.”

The next open house will be held at North Bay Elementary School on February 10th at 6 p.m.
