Bay-Waveland School District celebrates academic achievements
The Bay-Waveland School District celebrated academic excellence today with a visit from a special guest.
It’s a great day to be a tiger! Teachers and students in the Bay St. Louis-Waveland School District received a visit from local leaders and state Superintendent of Education Dr. Carey Wright as part of her ‘Celebration of Excellence Tour’ for ‘A’ rated school districts in the state. Dr. Wright said, “We’re just excited to be out here and celebrate with communities and teachers and leaders and students as you saw, this is a big accomplishment to have earned an ‘A.'”
The school district even broke out the red carpet for teachers and educators who do so much for students in the community. Dr. Wright specifically congratulated everyone for bring the district up from a ‘C’ rating to an ‘A’ rating in only one year. She says many factors played a part in the district’s high grade. “Laser like focus on instruction, and making sure that you’re setting high expectations for children, you’ve got a huge community involvement here, which is powerful for any of these districts, and using data then to make those changes that need to be made.”
Bay-Waveland District Superintendent Dr. Sandra Reed credits teachers for helping students excel in the classroom. “There are not a better set of teachers in the state of Mississippi. They absolutely rocked the state tests this year.”
With seven more ‘Celebration of Excellence’ events on the Coast scheduled, Dr. Wright believes education in our state is on the rise. “Everybody here is focused on children and that’s what it’s all about.”
Dr. Wright finished her day with another celebration for the Long Beach School District and will return Thursday to celebrate Pass Christian, Gulfport, and Harrison County schools, then Jackson County, Ocean Springs, and Biloxi schools on Friday.
