Bay St. Louis PD celebrates National Hot Dog Day with community event

BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (WXXV)- The entire month of July is all about hotdogs, but July 16 marks National Hot Dog Day.

In Bay St. Louis, the police department fired up the grill to bring the community together for more than just a quick bite.

The Bay St. Louis Police Department hosted its third annual national Hot Dog Day Celebration today, turning a simple summer time staple into a full-blown family fun day.

What started as a small event with the Boys and Girls Club has grown into a city-wide celebration.

Kids enjoyed bounce houses, water sliders, park fun, basketball games, and free hot dogs, all while getting to know the officers and city employees who serve their community.

Bay St. Louis PD says they hope this event continues to grow every year, creating stronger ties and summer memories for families across the area. Officer Roy Fullerton said, “We are setting the example of the law enforcement. We are partners with our community. It starts, those bonds, and the engagement with the young people of the community, it lets them know that we’re here for them. We can expand so when they grow up to be adults, they understand the importance of their role as citizens and partners with the law enforcement.”

Although the celebration of National Hot Dog Day is fun, the event has a deeper meaning. It’s a chance to build trust between first responders and the families they protect.
