Bay St. Louis man accused of hitting victim with bat charged with assault

A Bay St. Louis man is behind bars, accused of hitting another person in the head with a baseball bat.

Forty-one-year-old Matthew May is charged with aggravated assault exhibiting extreme indifference to human life.

He was taken to Hancock County Jail and bond is set at $15,000.

According to the police report, officers were called to a Keith’s Superstore about an assault. The investigation revealed that someone walked into the store and said something to May.

He left the store, went to his vehicle and retrieved a bat, then walked over to the person and hit them in the head.

Police said the victim refused medical treatment on scene or to be taken to the hospital.

May has a court appearance on June 22nd.
