Bay St. Louis Holds Senior Prom for the Elderly

The Bay St. Louis Community Center was hopping with the sounds of the Senior Prom Friday afternoon, and we’re not talking high school seniors.

Senior citizens from all over Hancock County went to the Bay St. Louis Community Center to relive the glory days of their senior prom. The seniors have been looking forward to this day ever since last year’s event. This year’s was the best yet, with food, live music, and door prizes. Many broke out their dancing shoes and showed off their skills, which like a fine wine, only got better with age. Organizers know that seniors, especially those in homes, miss out on many events in the city.

Thad Anderson, committee member for Hancock County Senior Prom, says, "We thought it was a good idea about two years ago to put on an event for Hancock County seniors. There’s not a whole lot of things for them to do in the public arena, so we decided to put on a senior prom. We organized it. We did one a year ago that was very successful and we look forward to doing one next year."

Organizers say the event wouldn’t be possible without the full support of the city council and all of their sponsors.
