Bay St. Louis food and beverage tax rejected

The sales tax in Bay St. Louis failed to get voter approval today.

With very low turnout, only around 1,000 voters went to the polls, the final results were 76.5% voted against and 23.5% voted for.

Bay St. Louis residents voted on a proposed two percent food and beverage sales tax increase. The city needed 60 percent of the vote to pass.

City officials proposed the increase to help raise money for parks and recreation facilities and tourism throughout Bay St. Louis.
