Bay St. Louis art pioneer Jerry Dixon receives Memorial Star
A pioneer in the Bay St. Louis art scene was honored today in a big way!
The late Jerry Dixon received a Memorial Star in Downtown Bay St. Louis. Dixon was the owner of Serenity Gallery, one of the first art galleries in the area.
Through Serenity, Dixon became known for promoting artists and exhibits and is highly regarded as a founder of the Bay St. Louis Art District.
Former understudies and those close to Jerry shared a few stories about him.
Kat Fitzpatrick says Bay St. Louis would not be known for its art if it wasn’t for Jerry and his gallery. “It started attracting because of his attitude and his welcoming spirit. It started attracting other artists and we have grown to be an amazing art town and on the national lists of art towns because of his contribution.”
You can find Jerry Dixon’s Memorial Star at 126 Main Street in Downtown Bay St. Louis.
