Barq’s building in downtown Biloxi still undergoing renovations
Progress continues to be made on the Barq’s building in downtown Biloxi.
The building is being renovated into apartments, with public shops on the bottom floor.
The last time we saw the Barq’s building, the crew had finally finished stripping it down to the original bones of the building, showing the original industrial look of the building.
Once the beams and steel of the building had been revealed, windows and sheetrock were put in. Lighting has also been put in, and paint is starting to go up.
Once the electricity is on, the whole process will start to move very quickly.
The biggest time consumer on the project is making sure the older building is very strong structurally.
“I have to keep reminding myself too as we keep running into these little roadblocks along the way, that this building is 100 years old. Over 100 years old!” said Lee Young with JDLE, LLC. “So, until the building was totally stripped of the decades of additions added onto it, and we got down to the actual barebones of the structure of the building, you didn’t see things clearly that needed to be done before you could put this thing back together.”
They will begin working on the bottom, public floor once the apartments are nearly finished.
